Posting Description
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES)
has an opening for a Research Associate (“Post-Doctoral Researcher”),
located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Earth
System Research Laboratory Chemical Science Division (NOAA/ESRL/CSD),
Boulder, Colorado. The selected candidate will work in close cooperation
with the research staff ofCIRESandESRL/CSDin analyzing atmospheric
aerosol measurements and model output. A key goal is to improve our
understanding of driving mechanisms controlling the distribution of
stratospheric aerosol and the subsequent impact of stratospheric aerosol
variability on the temperature and chemistry of the upper troposphere
and stratosphere.
We seek an individual with demonstrated expertise in aerosol modeling
using CCMs and analysis of aerosol measurements. It is also desired that
the applicant have a record of publications in the peer-reviewed
literature and experience presenting his/her research at scientific
meetings. A PhD in the field of atmospheric science, environmental
science or the equivalent is required as is experience with analysis of
global climate model output. This is expected to be a 2-3 year position,
starting in September or October 2015.

• PhD in Atmospheric Sciences or a related field.
• Programming experience
• Background in data analysis and statistics
• Experience in manipulating large datasets (including model output)
• Excellent organizational skills and logical thinking ability
• Ability to work as a team member in data analysis and interpretation
of results
