The Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Renewable Energy Laboratory of IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering at The University of Iowa has an opening for a motivated PhD student to work in the area of renewable energy and environmental fluid mechanics. The successful candidate will work on a project aimed to improve understanding and prediction of complex environmental flows related to wind and hydrokinetic energy and interactions with ecosystems. Our research involves a combination of experimental (LDV and PIV), computational (WRF, OpenFOAM, LES) as well as field methods.
As a PhD student you will be part of IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering. She/he will have access to an exceptional range of resources, including research computing support, laboratories, instrumentation and equipment, mechanical and electrical shops, etc.

Required Qualifications:
BS or MS in engineering or applied physics and mathematics with good scientific programming skills
Experience with one or more of the following: experimental fluid dynamics laboratory measurements, micrometeorology measurements, and wind energy
Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative research team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
