Upper Iowa University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Geosciences or Geography/GIS on the residential campus in Fayette, Iowa with a start date of August 2015. This is an academic year position with an eight course teaching requirement in two semesters. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek a geoscientist or geographer with GIS expertise and a deep interest in student-centered teaching at the undergraduate level who will contribute to an environment in which diversity is respected, encouraged and nurtured. This position will complement existing faculty strengths, and contribute to our field-oriented integrative geosciences, geography, and sustainability curricula. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellent teaching in classroom, laboratory and field settings, as well as the flexibility and desire to teach a wide range of courses. Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations and applications of GIS beyond the candidate's area of specialization will be especially welcomed.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Geology, Geography or a related Geoscience discipline, and applied skills and facility with geospatial technologies/GIS. The successful candidate will teach the following courses: Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, Geography/GIS Lab; and additional lower division courses, based on expertise; and upper division courses in GIS, remote sensing, global and climate change, geomorphology, sustainability and/or other related topics. The successful applicant will mentor and advise students, supervise student research projects, support departmental activities, serve on university committees, pursue scholarly activities and professional development, and provide leadership and service to the university, community and profession.

Teaching assignments are predominantly face-to-face on the Fayette campus, but may require teaching as needed in hybrid, online, domestic center, and international center modalities. The successful applicant is expected to complete training for online teaching during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Founded in 1857, Upper Iowa University (www.uiu.edu<http://www.uiu.edu>) is a private, not-for-profit university providing undergraduate and graduate degree programs and leadership development opportunities to more than 6,800 students-nationally and internationally-at its Fayette campus and learning centers worldwide. Applicants should submit, in Microsoft WORD or PDF format, a letter of application, a statement of teaching philosophy, CV, names and contact information for three references, and unofficial transcripts to employment at uiu.edu<mailto:employment at uiu.edu>. The letter of application should describe how the applicant's aptitudes and abilities are well suited to the mission and vision of the department, school and university. The position is open until filled though applications received by March 2, 2015, will receive full consideration. Upper Iowa University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
