This position is located in the Earth System Research Laboratory, Global
Monitoring Divison, Carbon Cycle and Greenhouse Group in Boulder, Colorado.
This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System
(CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure.
Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
The ZP-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.
*A one year probationary period may be required.
*Payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.

The individual selected for this position will:
* Set scientific goals and direction of measurements of isotoplogues
of CO_2 or other greenhouse gases within the overall goal of the
Carbon Cycle and Greenhouses Group of the Global Monitoring Division.
* Collaborate and coordinate with other laboratories specializing in
measurements of isotopologues in air samples.
* Analyze isotopic and mixing ratio observations using data analysis
methods and atmospheric transport modeling studies.
* Secure additional resources to strengthen the program through
collaborations, grants and contracts.
* Develop and evaluate new methods and instrumentation, with special
emphasis on carbon-14 in CO_2 or the relationships of isotopologues
of CO_2 and other greenhouse gases with chemical tracers, to improve
attribution of observed patterns in the atmosphere to specific
source/removal processes.
* Communicate results of scientific analysis to the scientific
community, policy makers, and the general public.

submitted. CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
*Basic Requirements:*
1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included
24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering
science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and
electronics.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to
one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24
semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering
science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
*IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS*applicants must possess
one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and
responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant
with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to
successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need
not have been in the federal government.
*To qualify at the ZP-4 level:*
*SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:*One full year (52 weeks) of specialized
experience equivalent to the (ZP-3 or GS-12) of the Federal Service.
Specialized experience is defined as experience:
* Measure of isotopologues of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
* Analyze the isotopic and mixing ratio observations using data
analysis methods and atmospheric transport modeling studies.
* Secure additional resources for research through collaborations,
grants, and contracts.
* Developing and evaluating new methods and instrumentation for CO_2
and other greenhouse gases.
* Communicate scientific results to the scientific community, policy
makers, and the general public.
