EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD), National Exposure
Research Laboratory (NERL), is seeking a highly recognized science
leader to serve as a Senior Atmospheric Scientist for the Atmospheric
Modeling and Analysis Division (AMAD). The position will be located in
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
The AMAD performs research to advance exposure science by developing,
evaluating, and applying models that simulate the atmospheric processes
and the transport and fate of pollutants in the atmosphere. The Division
is responsible for developing models used by EPA and the general
atmospheric modeling community in understanding and forecasting not only
the magnitude of the air pollution exposures, but also in developing and
evaluating emission control policies and regulations.
*More information on ORD's NERL can be found at:*http://www.epa.gov/nerl
The incumbent will provide scientific leadership in the area of
atmospheric sciences, with particular emphasis on investigating how
atmospheric processes relate exposure to air pollution and/or climate
change. This will be achieved through:1)developing, directing, and
leading an interdisciplinary research program to produce advanced
atmospheric models that can simulate the transport and fate of
pollutants; 2) developing and directing an interdisciplinary research
program for advanced modeling and decision support systems for effective
forecasting and management of the Nation's air quality, for analyzing
the impact of a changing climate in air quality, and vice versa, and for
analyzing multimedia pollutant interactions and impacts; 3) providing
leadership to enhance coordination, collaboration and communication of
atmospheric modeling both within and outside of EPA; and 4)communicating
the outputs and impact of the research to EPA, the scientific community,
and the public.
