Short-Range Mesoscale NWP Scientist
Integrated Aviation Weather System (IAWS)
Rockville, MD

I.M. System Group, Inc. (IMSG) is developing the Integrated Aviation Weather System (IAWS) solution to meet the global need for more accurate, timely, and user-friendly aviation weather information for improved civil aviation air traffic management and airlines operational safety and efficiency. Our system integrates sets of heterogeneous observations (from in situ, radar, and satellite platforms), Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model outputs, analyses, and now casting results for frequently updated en-route and airport terminal aviation weather to support the decision making by numerous users in the civil aviation sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our team. Solid technical skill sets and creativity for innovative solutions are both emphasized.

This position is located in the IMSG HQ Offices in Rockville, Maryland or in R&D Offices in College Park, Maryland, depending on commute convenience and work productivity.

Job Duties:

-          Develop new or tailor existing mesoscale models for specific applications.

-          Coding, testing, and verification of modeling results with available observations.

-          Work with IMSG project lead and other scientists and software development for model customization.



Qualifications:

-          PhD in meteorology with emphasis on mesoscale meteorology; MS with sufficient background will be considered.

-          Familiar with operational weather forecasting requirements, in particular the balance between accuracy and timeliness.

-          Experienced with rapid refresh type of numerical weather forecasting models

-          Experienced with data assimilation of in situ, radar, and satellite observations, as appropriate to improve mesoscale NWP model accuracy through advanced numerical cycling techniques.

-          Experienced with data quality control before they are used into NWP models

-          Familiar with mesoscale model dynamics and physics.

-          Proven programming skills in one or more core scientific programming and software development languages including FORTRAN, C/C++, Java, Python, shell script, Perl, etc.

-          Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision; team playing.

-          Familiarity with common meteorological data processing packages.

Other Information
U.S. green card is required, however, exceptions will be granted to outstanding candidate from foreign national legal resident in U.S.
