Ph.D. or M.S. position in molecular geomicrobiology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

The Molecular Ecology and Geomicrobiology Lab at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is accepting applications for a research assistantship starting in Summer or Fall 2015. Our research integrates molecular microbiology, geochemistry and geobiology to understand microbial life across environments such as marine and terrestrial deep subsurface, hydrothermal vents, and coastal estuaries. Ample resources are available for field sampling or cruises, experimental approaches (cultivation, microscopy, next generation sequencing), and/or bioinformatics of existing data. The graduate research will be a part of a larger NASA Astrobiology funded project with the aim of understanding life in extreme environments.

Interested Ph.D. students should preferably hold an M.S. degree with a focus in Microbial Ecology, Marine Science/Oceanography, Biogeochemistry, Astrobiology, or a related field, and possess strong analytical skills. Potential applicants with a B.S. degree should have 2 years of research experience in an area related to molecular microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, or analytical chemistry and evidence of strong writing and presentation skills.

The graduate assistantship will have an excellent stipend relative to the cost-of-living. To be considered for the position, please email me, Dr. Brandi Kiel Reese (brandi.reese at tamucc.edu<mailto:michael.wetz at tamucc.edu>). Along with a letter of interest stating your research experience, please send a C.V., unofficial transcripts, and GRE scores. Screening of applications will begin immediately and remain open until filled. Complete graduate applications are due December 1st (http://marinebiology.tamucc.edu/application.html)
