    Research Associate - stable isotope geochemistry (Fixed Term)

We wish to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in non-traditional 
stable isotope geochemistry, starting on the 1st December or as soon as 
possible thereafter.

The position is part of a NERC funded project that seeks to better 
understand chemical weathering intensity, which is one of the key 
regulators of the geological carbon cycle. Promising new tracers such as 
Si, Mg and Li isotope ratios may hold a new way forward, but our 
fundamental understanding of these tracers is lacking.

The work is laboratory based and will involve the synthesis of a series 
of different clay minerals in controlled conditions in collaboration 
with the University of Oxford using low-temperature experiments. These 
synthetic clays will be analysed for their Li, Mg and Si isotopic ratios 
at the University of Cambridge by MC-ICP-MS.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Earth Sciences or related discipline, 
should have experience of clean lab work and isotopic analysis (by TIMS 
or MC-ICP-MS) with good communication skills and the ability to work in 
a team. A track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is 
desirable.
