PhD student positions in Atmospheric Modeling and Health Analysis
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dept. of Environmental
Sciences and Engineering

I am looking for at least one new PhD student to join the Climate Health
and Air Quality Lab at UNC (http://www.unc.edu/~jjwest/chaq.html). The
PhD students will conduct research on funded projects in one of two areas:

- Global modeling of atmospheric transport and chemistry with CAM-chem,
and evaluating the global air quality and health benefits of actions to
reduce emissions from individual world regions.

- Downscaling of meteorology and air quality from future global
simulations, accounting for climate change, to understand air quality in
the US at fine resolution, using the WRF, SMOKE, and CMAQ models.

UNC is strong in air pollution science and modeling, and my lab has a
history of connecting atmospheric modeling with health impact analysis
and policy analysis. Candidates should have strong computer skills, and
backgrounds in engineering, atmospheric science, or several related
areas. I am now reviewing applications to start August, 2015. Please
apply through my department's website
(http://sph.unc.edu/envr/environmental-sciences-and-engineering-home/),
and please contact me with questions.
