The Stutz research group at the Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of California Los Angeles, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the area of remote sensing of Solar-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF). The successful candidate will develop and characterize a novel ground-based spectrometer system measuring chlorophyll fluorescence from natural ecosystems in the 730-770 nm wavelength region. SIF measurements will be made at various locations around the US, including one site in California, where a number of support measurements will allow the study of the carbon cycle under different environmental conditions.
The project is a collaboration between the research groups of Jochen Stutz and Ulli Seibt at UCLA, as well as various other Universities and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The candidate will be co-advised by J. Stutz and U. Seibt, as well as Dr. Christian Frankenberg from JPL.
Scientists with experience in atmospheric remote sensing, spectroscopy and/or radiative transfer are encouraged to apply. A PhD degree in a discipline such as atmospheric/environmental science, chemistry or physics is required. The initial appointment is for one year, and may be extended for a second year. Annual salary depends upon qualification, starting at $50,000.
The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Please send a CV with the names of three references by email to Jochen Stutz (jochen at atmos.ucla.edu).
The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
