EPA Federal Position - Next-Generation Air Quality Model Developer with an Emphasis on Computational Methods
EPA's Atmospheric Modeling and Analysis Division in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina is seeking qualified candidates to apply for a permanent Computer Scientist/Physical Scientist position at the GS12/13 level. The individual filling this position will be responsible for the following:
(1) Developing computational and numerical methods for optimizing large-scale atmospheric modeling systems on evolving computational platforms, including the development of the next-generation modeling system beyond the Community Multiscale Air Quality Model (CMAQ) with linkages and possible integration with other modeling systems (such as meteorology, hydrology, water quality, ecological exposure, and health assessment); and,
(2) Serving as a technical expert and providing scientific support for atmospheric modeling systems in areas of numerical methods for process integration, parallel processing, scientific programming, and code management.
Persons interested in this position should possess hands-on computer model development experience in the environmental area, which should have involved a lead role in designing, organizing, and implementing team research to design/develop complex atmospheric models; and, possess a demonstrated knowledge of parallel computer architectures, parallel processing technology and paradigms to improve the computational efficiency of atmospheric models.
