Hello, I'd like to post the following job description. Please circulate widely! Thanks!
Post-doctoral researcher: Household energy and emissions
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to play a central role in a collaborative effort in quantifying the effects of household energy consumption on indoor and outdoor air pollution and climate. The successful candidate will critically incorporate an understanding of resource constraints, technologies feasible for use in rural households, and emission measurements in order to estimate current emissions and identify feasible interventions. Given the complex nature of the problem, the candidate must be comfortable managing diverse data sources and synthesizing multiple lines of evidence to draw conclusions. Applicants should have an interest and background in one or more of the following: measurement of emissions or concentrations from household energy use, and identifying implications of those measurements; spatial analysis with respect to land use; or econometric modeling as it relates to emissions. Applicants should also have facility in collaborating among academic and non-academic practitioners, including those with limited English-language skills.
Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline, such as engineering, earth sciences, or public health, as well as a strong publication record and versatility in computational skills. The preferred candidate will have experience with GIS and/or process-based environmental modeling, and a good understanding of the literature in the fast-growing field of household energy.
Duration and Start Date: Initial appointment will be for 1 year, and may be renewed for a total of 2 years depending upon satisfactory performance. Position is available immediately, but start date is negotiable. The position will be located in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Domestic and international travel, sometimes for periods of a few weeks, will be required.
To apply, please send a CV and contact information of three references to Tami Bond, yark at illinois.edu<mailto:yark at illinois.edu>. For full consideration, please submit your application by May 1, 2014.
