Job description for Staff Position in Geoscience Instrumentation and Computer Administration

Baylor University Department of Geology seeks an outstanding individual to become a Geoscience Instrumentation and Computer Administration Specialist in the Geology Department to support and maintain paleomagnetism, geophysical, applied petroleum, and hydrological modeling instrumentation, equipment, and computers. The Geology Department consists of 15 geoscientists, including geologists and geophysicists (please see the Department website at: http://www.baylor.edu/Geology/ for further information).

Staff Position in Geoscience Instrumentation and Computer Administration: The Department of Geology at Baylor University invites applications for a staff position maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and computers in the Paleomagnetism, Geophysics, Applied Petroleum Studies, and Hydrological Modeling Laboratories and to assist with field programs to acquire geoscientific data beginning as early as March 1, 2015. In particular, the department seeks an individual that has experience providing general maintenance and troubleshooting for scientific instrumentation and computing systems. A B.S. in Geoscience, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required at the time of appointment. A Master's degree and work experience is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Knowledge of Linux, Macintosh, and Windows systems and familiarity with scientific computer programming language is preferred. In addition to providing support for research laboratories and field programs, the successful candidate should also be capable of assisting faculty in teaching new users to operate specialized instrumentation and software and to assist with maintenance of the department computing systems.
