Hi Everyone,

We are hoping you will help us spread the word about an Associate/Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies opening at Skidmore College (please see below and attached). Our Environmental Studies Program is thriving, and we are looking forward to this interdisciplinary natural scientist joining our group of committed students, staff, and faculty.

Thanks so much.

Associate/Assistant Professor - Environmental Studies

The Environmental Studies Program at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2015. We seek an interdisciplinary natural scientist who will be able to help teach our interdisciplinary environmental studies foundation courses and our community-based research capstone course. Within the context of an 18-20 contact hour teaching load per year, the position will also offer 200- and 300-level dedicated environmental science courses and occasionally teach a first-year interdisciplinary, all-college seminar (topic open). We seek candidates who are firmly committed to undergraduate education, and who will engage undergraduates in a rigorous research program. Areas of interest could include water resources, urban ecology, soil science, landscape architecture, or sustainable systems, and expertise in field methods is required and geographic information systems is desirable. We are also seeking leadership for the science track of our curriculum and our overall program with this hire. We are particularly interested in attracting academically and culturally diverse candidates, especially those who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Enthusiasm for advising, teaching, and mentoring a diverse population of students is essential.

Qualified candidates should have completed their Ph.D. prior to Fall 2015.

Skidmore is a liberal arts institution of approximately 2,400 students, with 21% students of color, and 248 full-time faculty members, located in upstate New York. Excellent teaching and research facilities support many opportunities for faculty in the classroom, lab, and field, including ~800 acres of woodlands and wetlands and a close proximity to urban, agricultural, and industrial environments. Skidmore supports faculty development including pre-tenure sabbatical, laboratory start-up funds, and internal grants.

Candidates should submit all materials online by September 30, 2014, including a cover letter, vita, teaching statement, sample syllabi, research statement, 1-2 selected reprints, and email addresses for three letters of reference. Applicants are requested to describe in their cover letter how they will enhance the diversity of offerings and educational experiences in the Environmental Studies program and Skidmore College with regards to their teaching, research, and/or service and how they will contribute to the developmental leadership of the program.

Review of applications begins October 1, 2014 and will continue until the position is filled.
