The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (www.pik-potsdam.de) is seeking a scientific programmer to assist in developing the PRIMAP group’s Emissions Module. The mission of the PRIMAP model is to synthesise earth system science and its uncertainties for international climate policy by integrating three components (emissions, climate, and impacts) to provide a complete assessment tool. The Emission’s Module component consists of a comprehensive database and quantification toolset designed to provide up-to-date analysis of policy options and emissions scenarios in support of the international climate change negotiations and for scientific research. The emissions module is a core tool for the Climate Action Tracker project (www.climateactiontracker.org), which tracks the current status of national pledges and policies and assesses international progress toward meeting a 2C temperature target.
Programmer Position
A scientific programmer is needed to further develop the core functionality and analysis capabilities of the Emissions Module, and to update the maintain the underlying database (PRIMAPDB). The PRIMAPDB contains up-to-date emissions and socioeconomic data from multiple sources. Analysis capabilities of the Emissions Module include calculation of global emissions pathways under different policy scenarios, calculation of abatement costs for mitigation pathways, and intelligent aggregation of data from multiple sources (the Composite Source Generator).
