Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University invites 
applications for an Intermediate Systems Analyst/Programmer position 
located in Palisades, NY.  The candidate will
perform a broad variety of functions related to scientific programming 
and data analysis, working with a team of scientists including students, 
in support of atmospheric and climate science projects.  Scientific 
programming including configuring, launching, and post-processing model 
simulations.  Adapt existing computer codes, writes, tests, debugs and 
documents scientific programs, helps staff to do the same.  Assist in 
analysis of model simulations and observations (both satellite and in 
situ measurements), using Matlab and Ingrid software and the creation of 
publication-quality graphics.  Assist in helping new team members learn 
the models, including via maintenance and documentation of codes and 
datasets, in some cases via group websites. Assist and advise other team 
members in methods for analysis of model and observational data.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Applied 
Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Computer Science or a related field and 
4 years of relevant experience including extensive programming 
experience in more than one language, such as Fortran, C++, python, 
Matlab, IDL.  Proficient written and verbal English and interpersonal 
skills required.

Prior experience developing and running climate or chemistry-climate 
models is highly desirable.
Experience obtaining, analyzing and graphically displaying data from 
observation networks, satellites, or simulations with atmospheric 
chemistry, air quality, or climate models, and application of 
statistical techniques to large datasets is a plus, as is other 
expertise with computer graphics and/or web design.
