The Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences (AOSS) at the
University of Michigan is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Researcher.
The candidate will work with Dr. Gretchen Keppel-Aleks in the study of
climate-carbon cycle interactions. The lab uses a range of tools,
including archived observations, ground-based remote sensing data, Earth
system models, and simple analytic models to understand the global
carbon cycle.
The selected individual will have the opportunity to choose between
projects involving (1) decadal to century scale prediction of
carbon-climate feedbacks constrained by present day variations in
atmospheric CO2 or (2) analysis of in situ and remote sensing
observations to quantify the impact of climate and atmospheric
composition on carbon fluxes.
A PhD degree in atmospheric science, or a closely related field, is
required. Competence and demonstrated experience with computer modeling
and programming languages (e.g., Unix/Linux, Fortran, and data
analysis/visualization software such as MATLAB or Python) is also
expected. Additional experience with remotely sensed data, field
work/instrumentation, and/or Earth system modeling would be considered
favorably.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Keppel-Aleks
(gkeppela at umich.edu). Additional information about the lab group can be
found at http://aoss-research.engin.umich.edu/faculty/keppel-aleks/ .
Applications should include a cover letter describing your interest in
the position, experience, and availability. In addition, please submit a
CV and the name, title and affiliation, and contact information for
three professional references.
The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, with the
option for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action
employer.
