Hello All,
Please see below for a PhD position opportunity.

The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is offering a
PHD
position
in the BMBF Project THREAT: THe Role of ocEAnic halogen and sulfur
compounds for The middle atmosphere in a changing climate”, planned start 1. June 2013.
in the research unit „Chemical Oceanography“ of the research division
„Marine Biogeochemistry“ .
The PHD will investigate the oceanic source of halogenated and sulphur
compounds to the atmosphere under both current and future climate conditions.
The research includes the development of an emissions module for short lived
trace gases that will be coupled to the new generation of chemistry climate
models in order to determine how the important climate active gases influence
the middle atmosphere, now and in the future. Experience and results from previous
work computing oceanic halogen emissions exist. The candidate will compile
variables from current literature, build a database, and compute emissions
using MATLAB, constituting the basis for the module. The module will then be
implemented in FORTRAN.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, interested in sea
surface processes, with enthusiasm for mathematical models. The applicant must
have a university degree in either chemistry, oceanography, meteorology, physics,
mathematics or a related discipline. English is prerequisite. Proficiency in MATLAB
is a must and knowledge of FORTRAN is desirable.
The position is available for a funding period until May, 31, 2016. The salary
class TVöD E13 (75%) TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees.
The GEOMAR | Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research is an equal opportunity
employer and encourages female scientists and scientists with disabilities to
apply.
