Position Available (apologies for cross-posting)
We are seeking a full time, Professional Scientist/Laboratory technician at the INSTAAR Stable Isotope Lab, University of Colorado, Boulder.
The INSTAAR Stable Isotope lab at the University of Colorado provides critical measurements of biogeochemical processes that control environmental change on human timescales using stable isotopes. The lab is a focal point for several large projects including measuring isotopes for the NOAA Global Monitoring Division’s greenhouse gas measurement network. We provide key data to help constrain models and improve the understanding of sources and sinks of modern greenhouse gases and the carbon cycle. We also use stable isotopes in water to reconstruct paleoclimate data from polar ice cores, and develop new, automated techniques for measuring stable isotopes elsewhere in the environment. We seek an experienced scientist/laboratory technician to join our team to perform a wide variety of functions including operation of mass spectrometers, instrument trouble-shooting and QA/QC of isotopic data.
The individual will serve as a technical resource in the lab, and expertise in instrumentation will be put to use in developing new methods, requiring some working knowledge of high vacuum, electronics, temperature control, digital communications, and mass spec related issues. Teamwork and good communication skills with fellow lab employees are an essential element of working in the laboratory environment. There may also be research opportunities, depending upon experience.
Applicants are required to have a bachelors degree (masters preferred) and previous mass spec experience. The individual must have good computational skills, including proficiency in a programming language, as well as all the typical applications such as the MS Office suite. Being a team player is essential. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and will include full benefits. Our full attention will be given to applications received before August 9, 2013. Interviews of acceptable candidates will begin shortly there after, and the search will remain open until the position is filled. We regret there are no funds available to reimburse for re-location costs to Boulder.
For more information or to apply, please see Jobs at CU: www.jobsatcu.com See job posting #RF00480 (after July 10).
The academic environment at INSTAAR is stimulating and the lab is a crossroads of interdisciplinary efforts with opportunities for exposure to a wide variety of research. We support a flexible and creative work environment, and should mention that we have an awesome espresso maker in the lab.
