Job Description:

*DUTIES:*

The Air Quality Planning and Science Division has a managerial opening in
the Atmospheric Modeling and Support Section. The Section is responsible
for: 1) developing and quality assuring gridded, chemically- and
size-resolved emission inventories for air quality modeling; 2) testing and
applying state-of-the-science meteorological, emissions, and air quality
models throughout the State; 3) coordinating with other sections and air
quality districts on the development of emission targets for State
Implementation Plans; 4) providing regulatory modeling support to assess
the potential air quality impacts of proposed regulations; 5) developing
metrics and procedures to assess the performance of meteorological and air
quality models; 6) providing ongoing technical and administrative support
for the Central California Air Quality Studies; and 7) providing emergency
response modeling support as needed. The successful candidate will direct a
group of highly qualified scientists and engineers in meeting the goals of
the Section, and interacting with other Sections in the Branch to meet the
modeling needs of the organization.

*DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:*

Applicants must have strong management and personal skills, and be able to
write and speak clearly and effectively. They must be able to manage a
diverse staff of scientists and engineers, as well as interact with
technical staff from within ARB, other agencies, and the general public.
Strong organizational and coordination skills are also strongly desired, as
is the ability to distill and convey highly technical information to upper
management. A strong familiarity with high performance computing platforms
is also desired.
