The Bioclimatology group at the Georg-August-Universitaet Göttingen is
offering in the project BaririFlux a *position as a **PhD student* on

*Investigating the water cycle of a tropical mountain rainforest in
Sulawesi/Indonesia using stable water isotope *


The position will be limited for 3 years and should be filled as soon as
possible. Salary: Pay grade 65 % TVL 13 of German state regulated public
service salary scale.

*Your duties *
The project aims to quantify the isotopic signature of water vapor exchange
of a montane rainforest, to determine the origin and recycling of
atmospheric water using stable water isotopes, and to characterize plant
water isotope composition. Tasks include testing and installation of a
laser spectrometer for water isotope measurements and meteorological
instruments , organization and carrying out field measurements in
Sulawesi/Indonesia, supervision of local assistants, analysis and
interpretation of data, presentation of results nationally and
internationally, publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

*Your profile*
•    M.Sc. degree in meteorology, environmental sciences, geo-ecology,
biology, physics, geography, etc.
•    Experience with data analysis in R or Matlab is a plus
•    Willingness to collaborate with Indonesian and German Partners
•    Ability and willingness to do extended fieldwork in the tropics
•    Proficiency (Fluency) in English; German a plus.

The project will be based in Göttingen, but fieldwork is done in Central
Sulawesi/Indonesia. Longer stays (up to 10 months) at the field site are
expected. Close research collaboration with the University of Tadulako in
Palu/Sulawesi and the necessary research infrastructure already exist.
