[EMP2012] telecon to discuss Eclipse Website --Friday 9/21

Hi Laura-

Just a clarification-I am in contact with the Tourism Tropical North Queensland media manager (as is Elaine Lewis). He is interested in getting some promotional materials from us to give away to their "fan base." I assume that means the general public. I can help coordinate sending him our e/po giveaways and any other items we as a group can identify as useful. That is needed before the event and those give-aways will need some sort of branding to the eclipse site to be useful.

In addition, I think we want packets of cool stuff to motivate folks to upload their images-say for the first 50. I assume we would be sending those from the US to people once we have their images on the site. So that is post-eclipse.

Hope that clarifies where we are. I am still trying to make contacts with both formal and informal audiences.

Great call! Lance - can you add igor at ssl.berkeley.edu<mailto:igor at ssl.berkeley.edu> to the eclipse website. Now we have 2 Igors as part of our project!



We agreed to each send out the notes we took for the call today. Here are mine...



Website main topic areas:

  *   overview of the project
  *   instructions and best practices
  *   educational resources, portals to educational resources (need start to list by Wednesday)
  *   portals to the images and movie

Website hosting - for now we will see how it goes to have HAO host the image uploading and processing part of the site and to have SSL host the CMS public/education portal to the project (based on a microsoft platform.) As it is easier to quickly put the site together and team members around the country can modify content without worrying about the style of the site changing.



Website branding - HAO banner will be used on the top of the page. SSL/Berkeley logo will be used somewhere on the page. We will make sure it is clear that HAO is leading this effort with CSE/SSL/Berkeley as a close partner.



By next week, we'll know if the project goes with Flickr or with an HAO server.



Ruth has been in contact with educators in Australia and we'll keep working making contacts in Australia to bring people into the project.



We'll put together some kind of packets of educational goodies for those who share their images with us. Ruth is working with the tourist bureau in Queensland to help us hand these out to the right people (did I get that right?)
