<p class="MsoNormal">This is a quick note to let you know that the new <a href="https://beta.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/major-research-instrumentation-program-mri">
Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) solicitation</a> has been released. While the full solicitation text is not available for another day or two, the high-level summary and updates are. There are several very significant changes to the solicitation:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Per the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act,
<b>cost sharing requirements for new awards in the MRI Program are waived</b> for a period of 5 years beginning with the FY 2023 MRI competition.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Correspondingly, the Track request limits have changed, with Track 1 proposals requesting from $100,000 to less than $1,400,000 and Track 2 from $1,400,000 to $4,000,000.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Also per the CHIPS and Science Act, a third track has been added to specifically encourage the purchase, installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to
conserve or reduce the consumption of helium. Track 3 proposals can range from $100,000 to $4,000,000.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Institutional limits remain, and are as follows:
<u>Two</u> Track 1 proposals, <u>One</u> Track 2 proposal, and <u>One</u> Track 3 proposal.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">The proposal window for the 2023 solicitation is January 16<sup>th</sup> to February 21<sup>st</sup>.
<b>After the upcoming proposal window, the MRI submission period will shift to the Fall</b>. The Fall 2023 window will run from October 16<sup>th
</sup>to November 15<sup>th</sup>.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
