<div class=""><b class=""><span class="finalNumber">SA004</span> - Atmosphere-Ionosphere-Magnetosphere (AIM) Coupling from High to Low Latitudes</b></div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class=""><b class="">Session Description</b>: AIM coupling takes place in broad atmospheric and geospace domains. Several recent findings regarding thermosphere-ionosphere metal (TIMt) layers provide new examples of AIM science challenges. They occur regularly
in the E region (100-150 km) at midlatitudes with semidiurnal tidal phases, in stark contrast to the irregular occurrence of TIMt layers in the polar and low latitudes. Additional winter Antarctic observations reveal downwelling vertical winds below 90 km,
challenging our understanding of general circulation, transport, and wave drag/sources. This session solicits observational and modeling studies aiming to understand AIM coupling from high to low latitudes. Topics include but are not limited to 1) low- and
mid-latitude electrodynamics, neutral dynamics, and TIMt layers, 2) high-latitude general circulation, neutral and plasma dynamics, and persistent gravity waves, 3) responses of the stratosphere-mesosphere-thermosphere-ionosphere system to geomagnetic and
solar activities, and 4) vertical and horizontal transport of global cosmic dust and minor species.</div>
