<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">SA011 Session Description: This session addresses science questions related to how the upper atmosphere system responds to the rapid reduction and recovery of solar irradiation
during solar eclipses. These variations lead to changes in not only ionospheric photochemistry but also the energetics and dynamics in the upper atmosphere. Some of the challenging science and observational questions include eclipse caused atmospheric and
ionospheric waves, photoelectron variations, hemispheric conjugate effects, and polar region magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere coupling. In 2021, two solar eclipses will occur in the Arctic (June 10) and Antarctic (Dec 4) regions during polar summers.
These will provide rare opportunities to study geospace responses to polar eclipses in a comparative sense. We thus invite community members to report new progress in understanding recent and past solar eclipse events, including results from the 2019-2020
eclipses and first results for the 2021 eclipses. We particularly encourage presentations focusing on polar regions and multi-instrument studies.
