<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) encourages qualified scientists, from recent graduates to experienced professionals, to apply for a federal opening in the Ionospheric Physics and Applications Section (IPAS)
of NRL’s Space Science Division (SSD). The successful candidate will join a team of scientists developing global and regional ionospheric and thermospheric prediction tools.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">The IPAS is developing ionospheric forecast models for operational use and exploring data assimilation techniques for sparse observational environments. A major focus of the current research is improving forecast
skill and resolving mesoscale features in the ionosphere with a special emphasis on forcing from the lower atmosphere. The successful candidate will work on developing ionospheric models that couple to the Navy’s whole atmosphere models. In addition, the incumbent
would conduct fundamental research into the physics and dynamics of the ionosphere/thermosphere using models, data assimilation tools, and observations.
