Dear CEDAR Community,

The CSSC has approved of a change to the CEDAR Bylaws (see below). The next step to finalize these changes to the Bylaws is for the community to vote. Please take a minute and vote here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeiN586Id9EG4LgYoD5AQ7AdDfVgu6KRSTt5QRnnDYEeYw_1g/viewform> to approve or reject the proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws. Thank you in advance for your participation in this process.

Proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws 20260511

Student travel support
Justification: In practice, we have been awarding international students registration fee waivers and housing support. This change aligns our Bylaws with established practices. Allowing the CSSC to consider, on a case-by-case basis, those who have recently graduated--but who were not matriculated at the time of workshop registration--is aligned with the spirit of supporting students.
Current Bylaw: Student support to attend the annual CEDAR workshop (if an in-person option is available) will be extended to only students based at educational institutions within the USA (including all US states and territories). This support includes registration fees, airfare(up to a potential maximum limit that may vary by year), and housing. In exchange, students are required to present a poster and are encouraged to participate fully in other areas of the workshop. Top priority will be given to funding the two SRs before all other students, to ensure their in-person support of Student Day.
New Bylaw (proposed): Students at the time of workshop registration are eligible to apply for funding support to attend the annual CEDAR workshop (if an in-person option is available). Students based at educational institutions within the USA (including all US states and territories) may be awarded support including a registration fee waiver, airfare (up to a potential maximum limit that may vary by year), and lodging. International students may be awarded a registration fee waiver and lodging. In exchange for funding support, students are required to present a poster and are encouraged to participate fully in other areas of the workshop. Top priority will be given to funding the two SRs before all other students, to ensure their in-person support of Student Day. On a case-by-case basis, exceptions may be made to extend student support to individuals who are not currently matriculated but are in close proximity to student status. This may include, but is not limited to, individuals who were enrolled as students at the time the research was conducted, as well as individuals transitioning between academic programs (e.g., between undergraduate and graduate study). If approved, such cases will enter the random draw pool and follow the established process of support selection.
