Dear CEDAR colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to the AGU session SA007
- Atmospheric Gravity Wave Dynamics and Vertical Coupling
Session description:
Gravity waves play multiple and diverse roles in vertical coupling
throughout the atmosphere. Their major sources include orography,
convection, frontal systems, jet streams, and secondary generation due to
momentum transport and instability dynamics. They transport energy and
momentum to higher altitudes affecting the dynamics, structure, and
variability of the atmosphere from the stratosphere into the mesosphere and
thermosphere, but these processes are still not fully understood. This
session solicits papers focusing on recent measurement programs and
modeling studies addressing the full spectrum of gravity wave dynamics from
local to global scales. Presentations are encouraged that investigate
gravity wave sources, dynamics, propagation in variable environments,
instabilities and turbulence, momentum transport and deposition, and
multiscale interactions.
The intention of this session is to have contributions from recent
satellite missions, ground-based airglow, lidar, and radar observations,
theory, and atmospheric modelling.
Looking forward to seeing you in San Francisco next December,
Pierre-Dominique Pautet (Utah State University), Wenjun Dong (Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University), Yuta Hozumi (Utah State University)
