Save the date!

We are organizing the second research workshop focused on the recently released Surya foundation model for heliophysics<https://github.com/NASA-IMPACT/Surya> in partnership with HelioCloud<https://heliocloud.org/>. Foundation models (such as GPT) are AI models, pretrained with big datasets, that aim to facilitate (and reduce the cost of) the development of a wide range of AI applications. Surya is a large AI model trained on data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. HelioCloud is a scalable, community-driven platform to discover, process, and share petabytes of data in an open, cloud-native environment.

The workshop will take place from September 14th to 18th, 2026 at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland and will be a hybrid virtual and in-person meeting.
The workshop consists of informational and hands-on components. The hands-on component will involve the development and training of fine-tuned models in using HelioCloud and will take place from Sep 14th through Sep 17th. The informational component consists of presentations and lectures about foundation models, Surya, and how to fine-tune Surya for different heliophysics applications. It will take place on Sep 18th and will also include presentations showcasing what hands-on participants developed during the hands-on component.
All informational components will be recorded and made available online after the workshop. As are all the recordings and outcomes of the 1st workshop.

All are welcome to participate on the informational components; limited availability exists for the hands-on component. You will be able to find more information on https://www.heliofm.org<https://www.heliofm.org/>. If you are interested in joining us for the informational or hands-on components.
