Dear CEDAR,

I'd like to advertise the session "Expansion of the Neutral Atmosphere and Its Impact on Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere Coupling" as a CEDAR-GEM joint session convener. Could you post the advertisement to CEDAR email list? The script is written below. Thanks!

Best regards,

Sang-Yun

Title: CEDAR / GEM session: Expansion of the Neutral Atmosphere and Its Impact on Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere Coupling

We are soliciting presentations for our GEM-CEDAR session titled “Expansion of the Neutral Atmosphere and Its Impact on Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere Coupling” scheduled for 4-6pm on Thursday, Jun 26, in Des Moines, Iowa.

This hybrid session will focus on Earth’s exosphere—the outermost atmospheric layer above ~500km altitude— and its role in magnetosphere – ionosphere – thermosphere coupling. Recent studies have shown that exospheric neutrals, escaping from the heated upper atmosphere during active periods, enhance neutral-ion charge exchange in the inner magnetosphere. This process can subsequently modify ring current energy flux and auroral precipitation, suggesting that the exosphere play a significant role in the energy, momentum, and mass circulations across geospace systems.

This session aims to highlight exospheric variability and its complex interactions with surrounding plasma regions, including, but not limited to, the ionosphere, plasmasphere, ring current, and magnetosheath. We welcome contributions from both modeling and observational studies that address these topics. The session will include a mix of invited and contributed presentations, followed by an open discussion to identify future directions and foster new collaborations. Researchers at all career stages are encouraged to participate.

If you are interested in giving a presentation, please contact Sang-Yun Lee (sangyun.lee at nasa.gov) by June 13.
