Dear Colleagues,

The GEM focus group ‘The Impact of the Cold Plasma in Magnetospheric Physics’ (CP) will have four sessions at the upcoming GEM/CEDAR workshop in Des Moines, Iowa during June 22-27.

As our focus group will be ending its activities this year, the first session will be devoted to discussing the progress that has been made in cold plasma research during the last 5-10 years. The second session will be on the future of cold plasma research, with a discussion of the gaps that still remain and of a plan forward.
Both sessions will be informed by the questionnaire on ‘cold plasma progress’, which the community is kindly invited to fill by June 4th 2025:

The third session will be on recent progress in cold plasma research, focusing on the latest results in the field. The fourth session will be joint with the focus group ‘Radiation Belts as a System of Systems’, and so contributions on the impacts of the cold plasma on waves and the radiation belts are solicited.

Researchers interested in contributing to these sessions and being formally on the agenda can contact Gian Luca Delzanno (delzanno at lanl.gov). The format of each session is different and details will be found at

We hope to see you at GEM!

Sincerely,
Gian Luca Delzanno
On behalf of the CP Focus Group Leaders
