Hey everyone on the CEDAR email list!
We've got a challenge that’s tailor-made for this community: the
atmospheric contamination from space emissions is rapidly becoming a
major issue. Reentering space debris is depositing unprecedented amounts
of material into the middle atmosphere, and frankly, the physics is
getting fascinating... and a little scary. Your favorite airglow layers
might soon be mixing with metal oxides!
The Department of Optical and Rocket Soundings (ORS) at the Leibniz
Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) is leading two major new
projects. These projects fund a total of 2 Postdocs and 3 PhDs across
all partner institutions. We are currently recruiting to fill the
remaining positions on our team: *1 Postdoctoral Researcher* position
and *1 PhD Studentship*!
The Focus: Advanced Lidar & Real-World Impact
We need sharp minds to focus on atmospheric contamination from space
emissions and advanced lidar technology development. This is a chance to
define the future of MLT monitoring. You will be instrumental in:
1.
Developing and applying our next generation of ground-based Lidar
instruments.
2.
Using these advanced systems to detect and quantify the chemical
signatures and aerosol effects of space debris in the MLT.
Who We Need:
If you have (or are pursuing) a Master's degree (for PhD) or a PhD
degree (for Postdoc) in a relevant field (Atmospheric Physics, Space
Science, Optical Engineering, etc.), love working with complex
instrumentation, and have a passion for atmospheric data, please join
us! We welcome applications from anyone in the CEDAR community ready to
tackle this critical, emerging field.
🗓️ Meet Us at AGU25!
Michael Gerding and Gerd Baumgarten will be available for in-person
chats and to discuss these projects at AGU25:
*
Monday Afternoon: Poster SA13C-1940
*
Thursday Afternoon: Poster A43AA-2254
Come find us and talk physics at the Edge of Space!
*➡️ Help us out! Even if you aren't the perfect fit, please forward this
announcement to your smartest friends, colleagues, and students who are
looking for a groundbreaking challenge!*
