Dear CEDAR Community,
The CEDAR Science Steering Committee (CSSC) is excited to share that we will have a CEDAR Workshop the week of June 21-26, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa. Please mark your calendars!
I’m pleased to announce that NSF has awarded the UCAR CPAESS a 2-year meeting support contract to hold in-person CEDAR workshops at the Des Moines Iowa Community Choice Convention Center in 2026 and 2027. This venue was selected because it is affordable, centrally located, and beautifully hosted the 2025 joint CEDAR-GEM workshop. Blocks of rooms for attendee accommodation have been reserved at the Hilton, which adjoins the convention center via a skywalk.
The anticipated overall structure of the meeting will include:
* A Student Day on Sunday, June 21st that will focus on CEDAR science themes, with additional student activities throughout the week. These events will be organized by the CEDAR student representatives and their respective student committees.
* Morning plenary sessions on Monday-Friday, with most being focused on CEDAR science topics.
* Science/workshop sessions during the late mornings and afternoons, with sessions selected based on proposals/requests submitted by the CEDAR communities in early 2026. Sessions will run until noon on Friday.
* Poster sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
* A number of Community Care sessions and events, including during morning and afternoon plenaries, and at breakfast/lunch events.
Additional meeting logistics planning is underway. More details will be announced throughout the year.
The CSSC is very excited to work with CPAESS to organize this workshop for you. With an increasing awareness of the importance of understanding geospace as a coupled system, the time is ripe to share our exciting science. We hope to see you back in Des Moines next June!
Enthusiastically,
V. Lynn Harvey, CSSC Chair on behalf of the CSSC
