Dear CEDAR Community,

The CSSC has approved of two changes to the CEDAR Bylaws (see below). The next step to finalize these changes to the Bylaws is for the community to vote. Please take a minute and vote here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1HXeWm6Am6wkYWtUfN1MqzmWc12FApXKvzx49-q1A8Sk/edit> to approve or reject the proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws. Thank you in advance for your participation in this process.

Proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws 20250818

  1. Add specificity to describe how the CSSC elects new members

  * Old: The CSSC selects new CMs, SRs, GLs, and ILs based on the community poll results and balanced by the need to ensure appropriate community representation.
  * New: The CSSC votes to select new CMs, SRs, GLs, and ILs based, in part, on the community nominations and rankings. The CSSC's discussion and voting on new members should be strongly guided by this community input. However, the final selections are at the discretion of the CSSC and should be balanced by the need to ensure appropriate community representation, and by any other information that the CSSC deems relevant.

  1. Change the structure and timing of the CSSC chair position. The CSSC approved moving forward with a chair/vice-chair structure. The current structure is for a chair to be elected every other year for a 3-year term. The first and last years of a chair's term overlap with the previous and next chair's ending and beginning years, leaving the chair alone in the middle year. The proposed structure will elect a vice-chair every other year to serve a 2-year term. The vice-chair then rotates into the chair position to serve another 2-year term. This structure will result in there always being a chair and a vice-chair working in tandem. This leadership structure will result in more robust and efficient leadership of the CSSC.

  * Edit the bylaws to change the CSSC chair position from being elected every other year to a 3-year term to elect a vice-chair every other year to a 2-year term that then rotates into the chair position for another 2-year term.
  * The vice chair duties will be the same as the chair, but in a supportive role.
