The next step to finalize these changes to the Bylaws is for the community to vote. Please take a minute and vote here to approve or reject the proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws. Thank you in advance for your participation in this process. Proposed changes to the CEDAR Bylaws 20250818 1. Add specificity to describe how the CSSC elects new members * Old: The CSSC selects new CMs, SRs, GLs, and ILs based on the community poll results and balanced by the need to ensure appropriate community representation. * New: The CSSC votes to select new CMs, SRs, GLs, and ILs based, in part, on the community nominations and rankings. The CSSC's discussion and voting on new members should be strongly guided by this community input. However, the final selections are at the discretion of the CSSC and should be balanced by the need to ensure appropriate community representation, and by any other information that the CSSC deems relevant. 1. Change the structure and timing of the CSSC chair position. The CSSC approved moving forward with a chair/vice-chair structure. The current structure is for a chair to be elected every other year for a 3-year term. The first and last years of a chair's term overlap with the previous and next chair's ending and beginning years, leaving the chair alone in the middle year. The proposed structure will elect a vice-chair every other year to serve a 2-year term. The vice-chair then rotates into the chair position to serve another 2-year term. This structure will result in there always being a chair and a vice-chair working in tandem. This leadership structure will result in more robust and efficient leadership of the CSSC. * Edit the bylaws to change the CSSC chair position from being elected every other year to a 3-year term to elect a vice-chair every other year to a 2-year term that then rotates into the chair position for another 2-year term. * The vice chair duties will be the same as the chair, but in a supportive role. -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o- V. The purpose of this workshop is to provide graduate students that have a foundation in their area of research, usually by having attended GEM or CEDAR, an opportunity for knowledge integration across all of geospace along with the opportunity to learn about the simulation and analysis tools developed by the CGS team, including the Multiscale Atmosphere-Geospace Environment (MAGE) model. This year we will build on the success of the last year's workshop, as well as the recent open-source release of MAGE and the MAGE tutorial held during the joint GEM-CEDAR meeting, to provide more in depth tutorials including a combination of conceptual content and analysis techniques, along with networking events. Student-focused activities will primarily be the 16th and 19th, and students will attend the CGS Community Workshop on the 17-18th. The Community Workshop will include talks from leading experts across the range of geospace regions, analysis techniques, and modeling. There will be a limited number of travel grants to support student attendance. Self-funded and local students are also welcome. Registration will be free. Students participating in this workshop will become members of the Mastering Analyses for Geospace, the Innovation Cohort (MAGIC). We welcome participation from attendees of the first workshop. Please mark your calendars! I?m pleased to announce that NSF has awarded the UCAR CPAESS a 2-year meeting support contract to hold in-person CEDAR workshops at the Des Moines Iowa Community Choice Convention Center in 2026 and 2027. This venue was selected because it is affordable, centrally located, and beautifully hosted the 2025 joint CEDAR-GEM workshop. Blocks of rooms for attendee accommodation have been reserved at the Hilton, which adjoins the convention center via a skywalk. The anticipated overall structure of the meeting will include: * A Student Day on Sunday, June 21st that will focus on CEDAR science themes, with additional student activities throughout the week. These events will be organized by the CEDAR student representatives and their respective student committees. * Morning plenary sessions on Monday-Friday, with most being focused on CEDAR science topics. * Science/workshop sessions during the late mornings and afternoons, with sessions selected based on proposals/requests submitted by the CEDAR communities in early 2026. Sessions will run until noon on Friday. * Poster sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. * A number of Community Care sessions and events, including during morning and afternoon plenaries, and at breakfast/lunch events. Additional meeting logistics planning is underway. More details will be announced throughout the year. The CSSC is very excited to work with CPAESS to organize this workshop for you. With an increasing awareness of the importance of understanding geospace as a coupled system, the time is ripe to share our exciting science. We hope to see you back in Des Moines next June!
