We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to join our team at the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, to work at the forefront of advancing high-resolution modeling to delve into the complexities of atmospheric wave and turbulence dynamics across multiple scales. The postdoctoral researcher will engage in a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  * Utilizing a range of numerical models with diverse capabilities to investigate the intricacies of nonlinear atmospheric dynamics. This includes studying wave generation, propagation, breaking, and wave-wave and wave/mean flow interactions.
  * Applying the WRF and/or MPAS models to uncover and examine wave sources from below, such as those generated by convection, frontal jets, thunderstorms, and more.
  * Innovating and adapting both physics-driven and data-driven machine learning techniques to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of numerical simulations.
  * Facilitating the integration of machine learning models with traditional numerical models to pioneer new approaches in atmospheric simulation.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  * Doctorate degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related area.
  * A deep understanding of the physical and chemical processes in the Earth’s middle and upper atmosphere at both global and local scales. Knowledge of the nonlinear interactions between waves at different atmospheric scales and regions is highly valued.
  * Competence in programming with one or more of the following languages: Fortran, Python, C++, MATLAB, Julia
Desired Experience:

  * Proficiency in state-of-art numerical modeling techniques, such as adaptive mesh refinement, and grid nesting, combined with experience in developing advanced simulation tools for atmospheric dynamics.
  * Expertise in both data-driven approaches and physics-informed machine learning methodologies.
