Subject: [EXTERNAL] CEDAR email: Invitation to Participate in Cold Plasma CEDAR Session

Dear Geospace Community,

We invite you to participate in our Cold Plasma session at the Virtual CEDAR workshop. The session will be held via Zoom from 11am – 1pm MDT (10am-12pm PDT, 1pm-3pm EDT). This workshop will consist of three sections: 1) A distributed tutorial on impacts of cold plasma populations by a panel of experts, 2) Contributed talks, and 3) Group discussion about future directions for CEDAR-GEM collaborations related to the new GEM Cold Plasma focus group. If you would like to contribute a short talk to the second portion please email roger.varney at sri.com<mailto:roger.varney at sri.com>with your topic before Monday June 22 so that we can coordinate speaking times.

Our panel of experts for the distributed tutorial will be:

1. Rick Chappell: Ways the ionosphere populates the magnetosphere

2. Phil Erickson: The Geospace Plume

3. Shasha Zou: Polar Cap Patches

4. Brian Walsh: Cold Plasma Impacts on Reconnection

5. Jacob Bortnik: Cold Plasma Impacts on Plasma Waves

6. Alex Glocer: Ion Outflow and Global Modeling

And more information about our new GEM focus group is available here: https://gem.epss.ucla.edu/mediawiki/index.php/FG:_The_Impact_of_the_Cold_Plasma_in_Magnetospheric_Physics<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/gem.epss.ucla.edu/mediawiki/index.php/FG:_The_Impact_of_the_Cold_Plasma_in_Magnetospheric_Physics__;!!Nv3xtKNH_4uope0!0qDl-chpq2ctcXyayXOzAFJobIiHge0dnsM-QMmCkidrz0a_1zdFazGKevVKnUU$>

This topic crosses many of the boundaries between the CEDAR and GEM communities, and we are hoping to encourage significant interdisciplinary collaboration with these workshops. We hope you will join us for the discussion.

Best regards,
Roger Varney
