We encourage your participation in our ACTIVE EXPERIMENTS WORKSHOP during the 2020 Virtual CEDAR meeting, tentatively scheduled for 09:00 – 11:00 MDT on Wednesday, June 24.

There is still much to learn about the dynamics of Earth's upper atmospheric and magnetospheric regions. In recent years, new techniques in active experiments have provided unprecedented opportunities for both in situ and remote sensing of the geospace environment. Ionosphere and magnetosphere modification experiments using high-power HF radio waves from ground-based facilities, chemical releases from sounding rockets, and particle beams or VLF waves emitted from satellites have induced geospace phenomena that are observed only sporadically in the natural undisturbed environment, if at all.

This workshop will convene researchers in all aspects of active experiments in space to present recent results and the latest modification techniques to explore and develop new possibilities for active experiments. Workshop participants will give short 'lightning' talks of approximately 5 minutes duration accompanied by up to about five slides. Talks will be grouped according to the following three topics: (1) opportunities and ideas for future experiments and campaigns, (2) results and data from previous campaigns, and (3) advancements in theory and modeling. Following each group of talks, participants will be encouraged to engage in moderated discussions to share results, resolve theoretical and experimental difficulties, and plan for future collaborative work.

Keywords: Ionosphere, Magnetosphere, Modification, HF heating, chemical release

*** Participation instructions ***

The session will be hosted in a Microsoft Teams Meeting via a link that will be provided to all registered CEDAR participants. Attendees may attend the Teams Meeting using the Teams application with a Microsoft account login or by using the web interface through the *Chrome* browser (no Microsoft account or login required).

Presenters must fill out a short registration form through the link below. Attendees who do not plan to present are still encouraged to register for the session.

Presenters who have never used Microsoft Teams to present may review the Microsoft Teams video training. Presenters will be contacted by the session organizers and will have an opportunity to test the A/V presentation before the meeting.
