The UCAR Next Generation Fellowships provide financial support for graduate
students from underrepresented communities

for
two years of graduate school and the opportunity to spend two summers in
internships with NCAR and UCAR. The program offers three distinctive
tracks: Earth System Science, Diversity and Inclusion in the Earth System
Sciences, and Public Policy.

*The UCAR Next Generation Fellowship in Earth System Science is intended
for graduate students:*

   - attending a North American university
   - having U.S. or foreign citizenship
   - from underrepresented populations (see definition)
   - holding an undergraduate degree in atmospheric science or a related
   Earth system science, such as one of the other geosciences, chemistry,
   computer science, engineering, environmental science, mathematics,
   meteorology, oceanography, physics, or social science, and planning to
   actively pursue a graduate degree in atmospheric or related Earth system
   science

*The UCAR Next Generation Fellowship in Diversity and Inclusion is intended
for graduate students:*

   - attending a North American university
   - having U.S. or foreign citizenship
   - from underrepresented populations (see definition)
   - holding an undergraduate degree in atmospheric science or a related
   Earth system science, such as one of the other geosciences, chemistry,
   computer science, engineering, environmental science, mathematics,
   meteorology, oceanography, physics, or social science
   - planning to actively pursue a graduate degree in atmospheric or
   related Earth system science, and having a strong interest in becoming
   champions for diversity and inclusion in the geosciences

*The UCAR Next Generation Fellowship in Public Policy is intended for
graduate students:*
- attending a North American university
- holding U.S. citizenship (required)
- from underrepresented populations (see definition

- holding an undergraduate degree in atmospheric science or a related Earth

oceanography, physics, or social sciencewanting to focus on public policy
and government relations and planning to pursue a graduate degree in
atmospheric or related Earth system science with a focus on public policy

*Deadline and Schedule*

Application submission deadline: midnight on Thursday, August 31, 2017
Awards announced: October 1, 2017
Awards begin: Fall semester 2017
Summer internships begin: June 2018
