Please post:

The Atmospheric Sciences program at MIT Haystack Observatory is seeking a candidate for a scientific postdoctoral position in geospace research. The postdoctoral candidate will conduct a number of scientific investigations based on observational data and focusing on ionospheric, atmospheric, and plasmaspheric climatology and dynamics, in conjunction with ongoing scientific research and in collaboration with MIT Haystack staff. Suitable research topics will emphasize system level studies of Earth’s upper atmosphere and associated magnetosphere, ionosphere, thermosphere, and lower atmosphere dynamics. Observational data available at Haystack includes ionospheric measurements for 50+ years using the Millstone Hill UHF incoherent scatter radar (ISR), empirical models of globally distributed ISRs, a 15+ year database of GPS total electron content data, thermospheric winds and temperature data from the Fabry–Pérot interferometers at Millstone Hill, and satellite observations including DMSP and CLUSTER. Haystack Observatory provides a stimulating interdisciplinary work environment on a 1,300-acre radio science campus in Westford, Massachusetts. Appointment will initially be for two years, with a possible extension to a third year, subject to availability of funds. Requirements/Qualifications: A Ph.D. in geospace physics, atmospheric physics, or a related field. The candidate is expected to have a strong publication record and significant experience both conducting independent research and working collaboratively with multiple groups. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results in the form of peer-reviewed research journals articles and oral presentations is a must. Must display outstanding scientific research ability, excellent communication and programming skills, and the willingness to work with a team. In addition to applying online please send a brief summary of research interests, a CV that includes a list of publications, and the contact information for three references to job at haystack.mit.edu.
