The Center for Geospace studies at SRI International is searching for a
Senior Research Engineer/Scientist to take over responsibilities as the
principal investigator for the NSF funded Sondrestrom Upper Atmosphere
facility located outside of Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. The post will be
located in Menlo Park, CA, but with frequent trips to the Greenland
field site.

The Sondrestrom Upper Atmosphere facility is part of the NSF chain of
incoherent scatter radars from the polar cap to the equator, and has
been operating at the West coast of Greenland for more than 30 years. In
addition the L-band (1290 MHz) incoherent scatter radar (ISR), the
facility consist of a Rayleigh lidar, two all sky imagers, and a large
and changing number of instrumentation for the study of the upper polar
ionosphere with PI's from other institutions.
The responsibilities of the position includes overall management of the
facility and the NSF grant, leading and directing the science and
development of the Sondrestrom facility, being a spokesperson for the
facility in the science community in the US and abroad, serve as a
liaison with the local government, developing modes and data products
for any and all current and new users of the facility, enhancing the
portfolio of the facility by looking for and developing new partners and
funding opportunities, being a science collaborator with any and all
users of the facility, making funding decisions and strategic planning
for the facility in line with NSF guidelines.
Qualifications:
-A PhD in Space Physics, Aeronomy, Radio Science or related field is
preferred, in addition to advanced knowledge of ISR technology and science.
-Applicant should have a minimum of 10 years space research (or related
field) experience.

Other requirements:
-In order to accommodate potential project work, a preference for this
position is U.S. Permanent Resident status.
