*SCOSTEP Awards for 2014 *

Recognizing the societal importance of studies in the field of
solar-terrestrial physics and willing to give credit to scientists who
contribute significantly to these studies and to SCOSTEP activities, in
2013 the SCOSTEP Bureau decided to institute the following awards:
SCOSTEP Distinguished /Scientist Award, SCOSTEP Distinguished Young
Scientist Award and SCOSTEP Distinguished Service Award. /The awards are
given biannually.

SCOSTEP is pleased to announce that the recipient of the first
/Distinguished Scientist/ Award is /Prof. Gordon Greeley Shepherd/ of
York University, Canada. The award is given in recognition of Prof.
Shepherd's seminal accomplishments and sustained contributions in upper
atmosphere physics, chemistry, energetics, and dynamics, which have
significantly impacted the field of solar-terrestrial research.

The recipients of the SCOSTEP/ Distinguished Young Scientist /Award are
two outstanding researchers, /Dr. Neel Savani/ of George Mason
University and /Dr. Jia Yue/ of Hampton University. The Award is given
to Dr. Neel Savani in recognition of his innovative research and
prolific publication record on solar-terrestrial physics in the first
four years of his career. Dr. Jia Yue is recognized for his significant
contribution to solar-terrestrial physics through his study of vertical
coupling by atmospheric waves between the troposphere and the upper
atmosphere.

The first/ //Distinguished Scientist /and /Distinguished Young Scientist
/awards/ /will be presented at SCOSTEP's 13^th Quadrennial
