The Space and Remote Sensing Group (ISR-2) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a full-time postdoc position in ionospheric physics. Specifically, the position will entail characterizing and quantifying traveling ionospheric disturbances associated with hypersonic objects, such as meteors, passing through the atmosphere and ionosphere. Available data sources such as wide-aperture radars, Doppler sounders, and fireball/bolide databases will be used to identify and characterize meteor events of interest. GPS total electron content measurements, ground-based infrasound, and ionosonde measurements will be used to monitor the ionospheric and atmospheric response to such objects.
U.S. Citizenship is required. This position also requires a Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field. The successful candidate should have experience in data analysis and scientific computing and have knowledge of the Earth’s ionosphere. Knowledge relating to analysis of meteor characteristics, such as with wide-aperture radars or Doppler sounders, would be beneficial. Experience with scientific software development in modern programming languages (especially Python, IDL, MATLAB, and/or C) is desired.
