Session title: Neutral dynamics: Significance to the aeronomy and challenge for measurements and simulations

>From Yue Deng (yuedeng at uta.edu<mailto:yuedeng at uta.edu>).
We would like to invite you to participate in the Neutral dynamics session at 2014 AGU.
Session Description:
A full understanding of the behavior of thermospheric winds is fundamentally important to
advancing our knowledge of the changes in the thermosphere and ionosphere system under various geophysical
conditions. However, the changes in the thermospheric winds and the way that they affect ionospheric variations are
still poorly understood. This is related in part to the shortage of wind observations, which are essential to guide and
validate first principles modeling of the physical drivers for the wind changes. This session aims to assess our current
understanding of thermospheric winds and discuss the dynamics of the ionosphere and thermosphere and their
response to solar and terrestrial inputs. The session welcomes presentations of the following topics related to
thermospheric winds: solar cycle, seasonal and diurnal variations; temporal and spatial structures of different scales;
storm-time behavior and related ionospheric effects; neutral wind dynamo and its variations; transport by neutral winds;
and ion-neutral coupling.
