This program matches early career PhDs with experienced scientists at U.S. research
institutions. Hosting scientists mentor the postdoctorates during their two-year
fellowships. The goal of the program is to train the next generation of researchers
needed for the emerging field of Heliophysics.

Dear Colleagues:

Please consider submitting an abstract to our Special Session "Space Weather
Events and Assimilative Models" at the upcoming URSI National Radio Science
Meeting, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, January 9-12, 2013.

Space Weather Events and Assimilative Models Special Session
<br>Convenors: Attila Komjathy <Attila.Komjathy at jpl.nasa.gov> and Anthea Coster
<ajc at haystack.mit.edu>.

The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, Sept 21, 2012.

ABSTRACT
Accurate forecasts of ionospheric conditions can be used to mitigate or avoid
the adverse effects of ionospheric disturbances on communication and navigation
systems during space weather events. Despite improvements in modeling and
increased quality and amounts of data, nowcasting and forecasting remain
difficult. This session intends to combine a review of current space weather
events and their implications, with a review of the latest developments in
ionospheric specification and forecasting. Papers are solicited on recent
experimental observing techniques, theoretical results of modeling, and the
combination of data and models into assimilative systems. Contributions on
analysis of filtering methods, data processing techniques for new applications
and observing systems are encouraged.

The web page http://www.nrsmboulder.org/ contains the general conference
information, including abstract submission instructions and guidelines.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Attila Komjathy and Anthea Coster
