Position for Atmospheric Gravity Wave Researcher at Australian Antarctic Division
>From Damian Murphy (damian.murphy at aad.gov.au)
The Australian Antarctic Division is seeking applications for a research scientist to work in the Climate Processes and Change theme of the Australian Antarctic Program. The successful applicant will be offered a three year contract based in Kingston, near Hobart in Tasmania and will investigate the role of gravity waves in atmospheric momentum transport, and their optimal representation in climate models. The research will make an important contribution to the Australian Antarctic Science Strategic Plan (see http://www.antarctica.gov.au/science/australian-antarctic-science-strategic-plan-201112-202021) and to project 4025 'Gravity wave drag parameterization in climate models'.
A key goal of the position is to implement a gravity-wave ray-tracing capability. In so doing, the position will provide analytical and quantitative support to the team of Australian and international researchers who are working to improve the representation of the southern polar stratosphere in climate models and the subsequent climate predictions for southern mid-latitudes. The position demands a productive and innovative researcher capable of initiating and driving independent research ideas as well as collaboratively supporting the work of others.
Position information is available at http://www.antarctica.gov.au/jobs/vacancies and applications, submitted via email, close on December 14th (Australian Eastern Daylight Time: UTC+11 hours). Applicants are strongly encouraged to provide support for their case against each of the selection criteria with examples from their research history. Applications from persons who are not Australian citizens will usually only be considered where there are no suitable Australian applicants.
