Dear Colleagues:
We welcome your papers presentations in our session of CEDAR workshop 2012 on
titled “Thermosphere-ionosphere coupling and the development of irregularities”.
Your
contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Description: Knowledge of the coupling between the thermosphere and ionosphere
(TI) associated with the F-region dynamo is important for understanding the
dynamics and the structure of the low-latitude F-region ionosphere and
thermosphere. Several ongoing ground and space based experiments providing
observations of the TI at low-latitudes provide a new opportunity to study the
coupling between the neutral atmosphere and the ionosphere and how these
interactions can lead to the development of irregularities. This workshop
solicits contributions to address the most recent experimental results from both
ground- and space-based observations. Also of interest would be contributions
describing simulation and modeling results related to such TI coupling. Papers
describing the development of ionospheric irregularities as well as effects
caused by the coupling between the ionosphere and neutral atmosphere would
certainly be welcomed.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Dr. Narayan Chapagain,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
Urbana IL 61801

(3) Nominations for the AGU Basu Award in Sun-Earth System Science due May 15.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
 From David Hysell <david.hysell at cornell.edu>.

The Space Physics and Aeronomy (SPA) Section of the American Geophysical
Union (AGU) is seeking nominations for the Sunanda and Santimay Basu Award
in Sun-Earth Systems Science. This award is presented annually to honor an
individual young scientist from a developing nation for making outstanding
contributions to research in Sun-Earth Systems Science that further the
understanding of both plasma physical processes and their applications for
the benefit of society. The award is open to scientists who received their
Ph.D. degree after 1 June 2005 and currently live and work in developing
nations. Consideration is to be given to candidates who have overcome
obstacles in attaining their research objectives.

The Space Physics and Aeronomy Section will invite the recipient to present
a paper at AGU's Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California. Travel funds
and living expenses will be provided to attend the meeting, where the
recipient will also receive a certificate of appreciation and three years'
membership to AGU. The award will be presented at the SPA dinner, for which
the awardee will receive a complimentary ticket. The awardee will also be
announced in Eos.

Nominations should be prepared by an AGU member or other geoscientist who is
knowledgeable of the candidate's qualifications and include the following
information:
* nominator's name and title, address and contact numbers;
* nominee's name and title, institutional affiliation, and address;
* a statement (not to exceed 2 pages) of the action(s) or achievement(s) for
which the candidate is nominated;
* two letters of support from AGU members or from other recognized geoscientists
belonging to institutions other than that of the nominee;
* a curriculum vitae (not to exceed 3 pages).

A list of previous recipients of the award can be found at:

http://www.agu.org/about/honors/section_fg/spa/

The deadline for receipt of the nomination package is 15 May 2012.

(4) Call for papers: JASTP special issue - Layered Phenomena in the Mesopause
Region due 21 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
 From Brentha Thurairajah <brenthat at vt.edu>.

Submissions are now being accepted for a special issue of the Journal of
Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, highlighting recent advances in our
understanding of ice layers in the region of the mesopause and the environment
in which they form. In addition to the papers presented at the 10th
International Workshop on the Layered Phenomena in the Mesopause Region in
Blacksburg, Virginia on 24-27 October 2011, we invite all relevant papers from
the community.

The submission website for the journal is located at:
http://ees.elsevier.com/atp/default.asp
and remember to select "10th LPMR" as the 'Article Type' in the submission process.

Deadline for submission: 21 May 2012
