(1) Deadline for CEDAR Eldorado hotel block on Friday June 8
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Barbara Emery (emery at ucar.edu).

The hotel block at the Eldorado for rooms at $139/night plus tax are
available until Friday June 8 for the annual CEDAR Workshop in Santa Fe,
New Mexico, June 24-29 at

(2a) CEDAR Workshop Monday 25 June 130-330PM: Hands-On CCMC Models and Tools for
the Ionosphere - a workshop for students and others interested in space weather
models and tools - please bring your laptops!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Barbara Emery (emery at ucar.edu).

This will be a very active, hands-on (bring your laptops) 2-hour workshop on
using the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) models and tools such as
the resources at the Integrated Space Weather Awareness (ISWA). This workshop
is especially targeted for students, but non-students also are encouraged to
come. The relevant URLs are http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov/ and
http://iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov/iswa/iSWA.html. We will go over parts of the CCMC's
ionosphere tutorial/primer created by Tim Fuller-Rowell using the CTIPe model
and Masha Kuznetsova which is located at
http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov/support/HSS_2011/ionosphere.php. Another primer made
for the Heliophysics Summer School 2012 (May 31 to June 6) is located at
http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov/support/HSS_2012.php. We anticipate pairing up
disparate partners (so you don't sit with your 'buds'), so that all those
without laptops have a partner with a laptop. <b>We encourage participants to
look at these links in advance</b>, and to also use these space weather tools
for their own education and projects, including theses. We especially encourage
CEDAR students to use these tools for a project in the next 12 months to be a
part of the CCMC Student Research Contest. Winners get funding for CEDAR
(better than the regular funding!) and time to present their results at the
individual CCMC workshop. Past student winners for GEM and SHINE at
http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov/support/contest-winners.php present their results this
summer.

<b>Agenda:</b>

# 1330-1430 Nick Gross (BU) Getting acquainted with the
ionosphere/thermosphere with CCMC resources and tools (tutorial/primer at
http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov/support/HSS_2011/ionosphere.php)
# 1430-1440 Ja Soon Shim (CCMC/U MD) 'Instant runs' such as the Weimer ion
convection, MSIS, IRI, ABBYNormal
# 1440-1515 David Berrios (CCMC/NASA) and Nick Gross (BU) iSWA at
http://iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov/iswa/iSWA.html)
# 1515-1525 Masha Kuznetsova (CCMC/NASA) Putting in an ionospheric model
'Run on Request'
# 1525-1530 Wrap-up (can look at your output from 'Runs on Request' on
Tuesday at our 'CCMC help desk' near the registration table during the breaks)

(2b) CEDAR Workshop Tuesday 26 June 130-330PM: Planetary Aeronomy & Comparative
Upper Atmospheres.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Edwin Mierkiewicz <emierk at astro.wisc.edu>.

Dear Colleagues,

The CEDAR New Dimension document states “comparative planetary aeronomy remains
a fertile research path to the development and validation of dynamic and
chemical models." Are you engaged in planetary aeronomy efforts (or simply
curious)? If so, I solicit your participation in the Planetary Aeronomy &
Comparative Upper Atmospheres Workshop to be held at CEDAR on Tuesday, June 26
from 1:30 -- 3:30. (See:
http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2012_Workshop:Planetary_Aeronomy)

Please let me know if you would like to show some of your work in this workshop;
both formal presentations and general suggestions for discussions topics are
welcome.

Hope to see you there!

Ed Mierkiewicz
(emierk at astro.wisc.edu)
