(1) New CEDAR Madrigal archive database now available at
http://cedar.openmadrigal.org
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Bill Rideout <brideout at haystack.mit.edu>

The new CEDAR Madrigal archive database is now available at
http://cedar.openmadrigal.org. This new central database serves two
purposes:
# it automatically archives all data from all Madrigal sites on a weekly
basis, and
# like the old CEDAR database, it serves as a permanent primary repository
for data not hosted at other Madrigal sites. (Note: The old CEDAR
database linked at http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu is still available and
supported during a transition time of a year or more, and is still the
site of the CEDAR community wiki.)

As a user, you can search all Madrigal databases, including data only on
the new CEDAR Madrigal archive, from any individual Madrigal site.

There are a few reasons why a user might want to go directly to the CEDAR
Madrigal archive site at http://cedar.openmadrigal.org. Madrigal has a
simple web interface that only searches for Madrigal data local to a
particular site. If you use the simple web interface at the CEDAR
Madrigal archive site, you have access to all Madrigal data across all
Madrigal sites, including CEDAR. Also, in some cases, response times
might be faster at the CEDAR Madrigal archive site.

The Madrigal database is an open source project, and all code is available
at the web site http://www.openmadrigal.org. While Millstone Hill is the
primary developer, the latest release of Madrigal (2.6) was developed in
partnership with Jicamarca Radio Observatory. Community feedback and
contributions regarding this project are strongly encouraged. Please
contact Bill Rideout at brideout at haystack.mit.edu for more information.
The CEDAR Madrigal archive site is supported by NSF grant AGS-1025467.

(2) Program Officer opportunity for AGS/NSF Education and
Cross-Disciplinary Activities - applications due 10 February.

>From Michael Morgan (Director AGS/NSF) and Steve Nelson <snelson at nsf.gov>.

A position has been listed for a program officer in the Atomospheric and
Geospace Sciences (AGS) directorate to work on education and
cross-disciplinary
activities. Opening dates of the announcements are 01/30/12 – 02/10/12.
Below
are the links and I have also attached the postings for your convenience.

(3) Post-doctoral position in the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group,
Imperial College London - due 22 February.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Michele Dougherty <m.dougherty at imperial.ac.uk>

Applications are invited for a two-year Research Associate position in the
Space and Atmospheric Physics Group, Imperial College London. The research
would involve data analysis, interpretation and modelling in space and/or
planetary physics to complement and advance areas of interest within the
Group. Some of these topics would take advantage of magnetic field
measurements taken by Imperial magnetometers currently operating on several
spacecraft and in situ particle data for which the group undertakes
significant roles. Supporting theoretical and modelling work is also
required.
Main areas of interest within the Group include the Earth’s outer
magnetosphere and bow shock, magnetic reconnection, turbulence and related
phenomena in interplanetary space, planetary magnetospheres, atmospheres and
exospheres, solar-wind cometary interactions, and magnetic field measurements
at or near other planets. The work will exploit the Group’s involvement in
current space missions, including Cassini, Cluster, Rosetta, Stereo, Themis,
and Venus Express together with future missions (e.g., NASA's MMS or the
CINEMA/TRIO CubeSat mission).

Our preferred method of application is online via our website
http://www.imperial.ac.uk/employment (please select “Job Search” then enter
the vacancy reference number NS2012008RD into “Keywords”). Please complete
and upload an application form as directed, also providing a CV and list of
publications and the names of three referees.

Should you have any queries about the application process please contact the
Space and Atmospheric Physics Group Administration office via
space.sec at imperial.ac.uk

Closing date: 22nd February 2012 (midnight GMT)
