Jim McCaa and Marc Michelson have helped me identify the problem. There is
apparently a problem with fortran i/o for pgi versions between 3.2 and 4.0.
Jim says cam2.0.2 runs fine in SPMD mode with pgi-4.0. My linux cluster has
pgi-3.2, so cam2.0.1 fails in SPMD mode. CCSM supports only the lahey
compiler on linux clusters, so the recommendation is to use that compiler.
